Using Sourdough start to ferment Hard Cider!!
« on: May 08, 2020, 08:06:54 AM »
Hello all I haven't brewing anything in awhile so haven't been on so hope all are healthy and well and are brewing on!! Recently I decided to try using my sourdough starter I cultured from scratch over the last 6months, to try fermenting up some cider. I built up a small starter from my sourdough offs in apple juice, over a few days and tossed it into 3gals of apple cider. With in 3hrs I had fermentation and it was in need of blow off tube. I'm just asking has anyone else done this with they're ciders or beers if so how was it? I know I read a few things online of people doing it, but figured ask I was just curious.

Thank you and Cheers!!

COMBAT a brick oven would be awesome hope you get to make it. I've been doing a lot of sourdough bread and beer bread baking myself. The Cider I did I just racked to secondary. I'm going to back sweeten it using Raspberry Apple juice concentrate. It fermented like a beast with the sourdough starter. The simple I tasted was already pretty clear and had a banana apple fruity funk & smell with a little residual sweetness and a small funkiness in the taste. Cheers !!
